100 East Road, London | Mace
An increase in private development and the prevalence of modern construction techniques has changed the delivery of student accommodation in recent years. 100 East Road is a new-build, mixed-use development with 220 rooms arranged into studios, twin cluster flats and twin rooms with retail and commercial space at ground level. As project managers, Mace worked closely with the client and design team to ensure maximum quality while maintaining the required level of cost to accomplish the desired functionality and finish of the building. This widely acclaimed scheme is the first student accommodation development to secure a BREEAM Excellent rating.
Mace has wide experience in both the residential and higher education sectors and unlike its competitors, is not aligned to a particular building product or system, which means that focus remains on finding the best solution for the client. Mace knows which blend of modern construction techniques and time-tested principles make a building work efficiently for its users today and over the long term. With an eye to ensuring the building was both sustainable and efficient, the project team ensured it was built with highly efficient building fabric to achieve high levels of thermal insulation. The scheme will achieve 20 percent on-site renewable energy generation by a biomass boiler with each studio or flat employing a heat recovery ventilation system.
