Mace is a super group, says Best Employer Index

Mace has been named as a “super group” on the Construction News (CN) Best Employers Index, which recognises and celebrates the good things that construction companies are doing despite the downturn. While companies are not given an overall ranking, within specific categories Mace topped the list for both pay and reward, and staff engagement.

“It is very pleasing to get recognition from Construction News for Mace’s continuing focus on employee engagement and retention”, said Mace’s HR director, Kath Knight.

“Our employees are, as they always have been, our vital ingredient and differentiator. The economic downturn has meant that we’ve had to work even harder at this and it’s good to see it paying off.”

Mace’s culture of challenging the norm was highlighted as good practice, in addition to its emphasis on securing work in a wide range of market sectors to help safeguard jobs. The Mace Social Inclusion Programme, which provides training and employment opportunities for people local to Mace projects, was also given a special mention.

The index was based on a detailed survey completed by the companies taking part, which was then weighted and judged by a panel of independent experts. The six companies chosen form a shortlist for the "Employer of the Year" category at this year’s CN Awards.
